Staple Babies

With the rise in popularity of the Living Dead Dolls, similar handmade dolls seem to be popping up everywhere. The most original and intriguing of these dolls has to be the Autopsy Zombie Staple Babies. But these controversial dolls are not for the faint of heart. Their graphically disturbing designs have led to numerous complaints and their banishment from eBay.

The Autopsy Zombie Staple Babies have also started getting attention from alternative media sources. Recently, these dolls were featured in issue #61 of Bizarre Magazine and they may be appearing in a future issue of Rue Morgue. I hope this attention bodes well for Jem, creator of the staple babies, who is currently hoping to make a deal with a toy company to mass produce a similar line of dolls.

I had the opportunity to pose some questions to Jem about how these one-of-a-kind dolls are made and how they can be ordered:

Are the dolls made by hand?
Yes, they are made from used average vinyl & rubber baby dolls. Making staple babies from a doll that was once loved by a child gives them a soul and makes them slightly creepier when they are done.

Can people order other dolls from your gallery, or can they only order the "current doll"?
Well I get a little tired of making the same doll over and over, but I usually recreate the more popular & requested dolls, I like to try new things. They are sold one by one, whenever a new doll is complete it gets listed for sale.

Is it true that eBay won't allow you to auction the dolls?
Yes its very true, they said that my dolls glorify violence and violate their offensive material policy. Apparently some people were complaining, saying they were real babies being tortured?!?! You can still find items such as post mortem photos, taxidermy animals, and who knows what else on eBay, but you won't see any of my dolls.

Do you take design requests?
I've done commissioned work before, but it gets pricey.

How often do you come out with new doll designs?
Every 3-4 days.

When someone orders a doll, how long does it usually take to ship it?
3-4 days, depending on current anthrax scares?

Are your prices fixed or are they negotiable
Negotiable to repeat buyers, sometimes misc. trades are welcome.
